Description
Defined by Alain Jouffroy as “the Gandhi of modern painting”, Philip John Martin was a globetrotting, hippie artist. His painting are full of spiritual symbols and effigies with decorations that evoke sacred vestments or decorations of oriental temples. During a trip with his wife Helen Marshall throughout Europe, he stayed in Italy between 1953–1956 working in Positano, Ischia and Firenze. In this period he met Roberto Matta and Arturo Schwarz. In the iscription the author refers to Malorca, probably the place where this artwork was made.
