Description
Portrait of Natasha. "Italian pioneer of the research related to the body and to the action, Desiato infuses in his actions a demystifying tension, visible in the theatricalization of the image. However, Giuseppe Desiato is not only this. In his work, there is one of the themes dear to academic painting: the model as a source of analytical study and inspiring subject, which is here revisited in a plausible key, along the lines of the erotic dream and erotic sign, capable of revealing those repressed instincts that a moralistic society, in its false behavior, tries to hide, to veil, to deviate. The choice of the iconographic motifs preferred by Desiato falls, in fact, in the popular universe and in the erotic, religious, political and artistic imaginary. A universe populated by an apparatus of fetishes, altars, devotional images, in which the myth of youth seems to want to erect its own cult: all the religiosity and rituals connected to the woman's body, invoked by the artist priest and transformed into almost cultural images, suspended in the obscenity of the vivid celebration. Works constructed in uninhibited compositions and without any apparent rational control, in which the female body of the model is recovered from academic painting to rise to its erotic and iconic sanctity, or the banal object transfigured by the artist's imaginative intervention."
